It is expected that Vietnam market will have 4 new models from Toyota in the near future, with 1 slightly upgraded model, 2 models of new generation and 1 brand new model.
Toyota Vietnam seems to be ready for a busy 2023 when a host of information about new products will be launched this year, including 3 upgraded versions of familiar cars and especially a brand new model, in the urban SUV segment.
Specifically, information from dealers shows that the new version of Vios is expected to be introduced in May, leaked images show that this B-segment sedan model is changed mainly at the front of the car and wheels, and this is not a new generation similar to other markets in the region.
In addition to the upgrade in appearance, it is not clear whether Toyota Vios 2023 for Vietnam has any other changes, but it is expected that the car will still be assembled domestically, the selling price may be equivalent to the old car. Currently, this model is sold with 6 versions for 489 – 592 million VND.
Meanwhile, sales consultants at dealerships have recently started accepting deposits for the new-generation Wigo and announced that a new model will arrive at dealerships at the end of April and is expected to officially launch in May. The car is expected to continue to be imported in Indonesia and has many characteristics similar to the version sold here.
There is no official information, but the new generation Toyota Wigo may still be sold with 2 versions: MT (expected price of VND 350 – 370 million) and AT (expected price of VND 400 – 420 million). Besides the design, the car is also announced to have an upgrade with 13 new features compared to previous one.
In Indonesia, this hatchback is built on Daihatsu’s New Global Architecture (DNGA-A), and features a 1.2L 3-cylinder WA-VE engine, giving a maximum output of 88 hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 Nm at 4,500 rpm; combined with a D-CVT stepless variable transmission and front-wheel drive.
In addition, the new generation Innova is also about to be officially sold in Vietnam when it has received early deposits at dealers for a long time. Some sales consultants said that this MPV model will be sold in Vietnam from the end of the second quarter or the beginning of the third quarter with versions that will mostly be imported as completely built units from Indonesia. In particular, the Vietnamese market still has the option of a manual transmission, thus this version will be assembled domestically.
The new generation Toyota Innova is built on Toyota’s all-wheel chassis platform TNGA-C, having a 2.0L petrol engine with a maximum power of 174 hp and a maximum torque of 205 Nm or a Hybrid option with a naturally aspirated 2.0L 4-cylinder Dynamic Force petrol engine (150 hp and 187 Nm) combined with an electric motor (111 hp and 205 Nm), produces a maximum power that can be up to 183 horsepower. Besides, the car also has other upgrades in design and equipment, especially the addition of Toyota Safety Sense.
In February, reports showed that Toyota Thailand expected to launch a new B-class crossover for emerging markets globally (code D2B), speculating that this is also the third model that could be brought to the Vietnamese market this year.
Many speculations claim that the new model is the Yaris Cross. However, this SUV is already available in its home country of Japan and Europe, so becoming a new product introduced globally is still questionable. According to Thailand’s Headlight Mag magazine, the new model will be built on Daihatsu’s DNGA platform, which powers small cars from both the automaker and Toyota.
The car is expected to have 2 engine options including: 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline combining CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive, along with a Hybrid system called e-Smart with a 1.5L engine that works to charge electricity to drive the electric motor (similar to Nissan Kicks).
Currently, Toyota has 2 models with different sizes competing in the extremely “hot” urban SUV segment in Vietnam. In particular, Corolla Cross is built on TNGA-C platform (similar to Corolla Altis) and Raize is built on DNGA-A platform (similar to new generation Wigo).
The fact that the Japanese automaker wants to add 1 model using DNGA-B architecture (similar to the new generation Vios) is completely understandable and is expected to become Toyota’s flagship in this segment. The starting price of the new urban SUV in Vietnam is predicted to be between the above 2 models, ie in the range of 552 – 755 million VND.
