In the month of July, the B-segment sedan market experienced a significant downturn, with the Toyota Vios being the hardest hit, witnessing a staggering 86% decrease in sales and subsequently slipping from its top position to the fourth spot.

Despite a recent recovery in sales momentum following a string of consecutive declines, this month saw a sharp contraction in the B-segment sedan market. The total number of deliveries to customers plummeted to 2,794 units, a drop of 2,000 units from the previous month.

Remarkably, the rankings among the top contenders underwent a complete upheaval. The Hyundai Accent emerged as the frontrunner in terms of sales, with 1,375 units delivered to customers, although this figure represented a 10% decrease from the prior month. The second position was secured by the Honda City, which saw 454 vehicles being sold, marking a 20% decrease. In the third slot was the Mitsubishi Attrage, with 387 units sold, reflecting a 14% decrease. Notably, this is the second time in 2023 that the Attrage has managed to secure a place in the top 3 of the B-segment sedan segments.

The Toyota Vios, which had clinched the top spot in the previous month with 1,949 vehicles sold, witnessed a dramatic decline this month, delivering a mere 271 units – a striking 86% decrease that resulted in the Vios slipping to the fourth position in the rankings.

The Mazda2 secured the fifth position with 228 units sold, experiencing a nearly 10% decline compared to the preceding month. The remaining two positions saw positive growth, albeit not as pronounced as other competitors due to relatively lower sales volumes. The Kia Soluto reported sales of 78 vehicles, reflecting a 26% increase, while the Suzuki Ciaz, which had no sales in the previous month, managed to deliver 1 unit this month.

In summation, July proved to be a challenging period not only for the B-segment sedan segment but also for numerous other market segments, all experiencing a notable decline. Despite the implementation of various sales and demand stimulation programs by automakers, coupled with a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically produced vehicles, most models witnessed a substantial drop in sales.

The robust sales of the Vios in June were largely attributed to the influx of pre-orders from customers. The introduction of a new version boasting multiple enhancements and safety features had enticed customers to pre-order in significant numbers, resulting in a sudden surge in sales. However, the novelty factor waned in July, leading to a drastic downturn in Vios sales.

It’s worth noting that the B-segment sedan segment also includes the Thai-imported Nissan Almera model; however, the distributor has not yet disclosed the corresponding sales figures for this period.
