Toyota Vios tries to keep up with sales of Hyundai Accent

Despite losing the segment’s best-selling position in 2021, Toyota’s flagship model still proves disadvantaged over Accent in the first 2 months of 2022.

In February, Toyota Vios ‘ sales reached 1,181 units, leading the group of B-sized sedans. However, this was not enough to help the Japanese model reclaim its throne in the segment. Accumulated from the beginning of the year, Vios has sold 2,627 units, which is 772 less than its rival Hyundai Accent.

Both Vios and Accent have difficulty in supply when the importation of components used to assemble the cars is running short. Accent’s February delivery of 1,000 vehicles is far below the 2,398 units in the previous month.

At dealers, Vios is being offered 10-30 million VND in incentives with accessories. On the other hand, Accent is currently in short supply, some automatic transmission versions even have a difference of 10-20 million VND for accessories.

Aside from the main race of Vios and Accent, Honda City followed closely the two when it was only 110 cars behind Toyota’s model. The promotion level of 10-30 million VND at dealers, along with a stable supply, are helping City keep up with the two leading competitors.

In the remaining group, Mitsubishi Attrage, Kia Soluto, and Mazda2 share the next three positions. Among these, Mitsubishi’s model is rising with 1,236 units sold after 2 months. Nissan Almera (formerly Sunny) does not release its sales figures.
