Toyota will sell both new and old Innova versions in Vietnam

29 Jul 2023

The new generation of Innova is expected to be sold in Vietnam in October, but the old generation is still retained instead of discontinued.

The new generation Toyota Innova is set to be introduced in the Vietnamese market, alongside the existing model. The new Innova will come with both gasoline and hybrid engine options and will be imported from Indonesia, while the manual and current versions will continue to be assembled in Vietnam. The decision to continue selling the old Innova is due to its demand from customers, particularly those who buy it as a service car.

In other markets like India and Indonesia, Toyota has also parallelly sold the old and new versions of Innova with different names. The new generation Innova, which was launched in Indonesia in November 2022, has a more SUV-oriented design compared to the traditional MPV style of the current generation. It features modern equipment such as an electronic handbrake, interior lights, voice trunk opening, panoramic sunroof, and entertainment screen for the second row, catering to family-oriented customers.

The new Innova offers two engine options: a 2.0-liter petrol engine with VVT-i technology, producing 171 horsepower and 204 Nm of torque, and a hybrid version with a 2.0-liter engine combined with an electric motor for a total output of 183 horsepower. Both engine options come with CVT-type gearboxes.

Toyota continues to expand its hybrid offerings in Vietnam, with the new Innova and Yaris Cross being the latest models to feature hybrid engine configurations. The new Innova will also be equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 safety package, which includes lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

Currently, the Toyota Innova has no direct competitors in the Vietnamese market, as it sits between small MPV models like the Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz, and larger models like the Kia Carnival. However, Hyundai Thanh Cong is planning to introduce the Hyundai Custo by the end of 2023, which could become a potential rival for the new Innova.
