A source said that the Indian motorcycle company, TVS, has found a distributor in Vietnam. “If all goes well, TVS models can be sold in the third or fourth quarter of 2023”, said an unnamed representative of the TVS distributor in Vietnam.

It is not clear which model of TVS will be sold in Vietnam. Recent data from the Registry shows that the TVS Ntorq 125 scooter model has a compact and sporty design and has completed the registration procedure. Vehicles are imported by a company specializing in motorcycle sales in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

TVS was established in 1978, headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The company has long cooperated with Suzuki in producing motorcycles for the local market. Cooperation with the Japanese motorcycle company helps TVS get the technology copyright and the designs of some Suzuki models. In 2001, TVS stopped joint venture with Suzuki. The company also had a joint venture with BMW Motorrad to produce the nakedbike G310R.

In India, TVS is the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in terms of market share, after Hero and Honda. The annual production output of TVS is about 4 million units, including various types such as scooters, small motorcycles under 100cc, motorcycles, and tricycles.

As for the popular scooter line, TVS has models such as Zest 110, Jupiter 110-125, Ntorq 125 with the selling price in India equivalent to 18.8-24.2 million VND. In particular, the most expensive is TVS Ntorq 125 model, equipped with a 125-cc engine, LED lighting, LCD speed screen, smartphone connection… The vehicle has dimensions of 1,861 x 710 x 1,164 mm, a wheelbase of 1,285 mm, equivalent to Honda’s Air Blade.

Vietnam and India are both the world’s leading large motorcycle consumption markets, fourth and first, respectively. For many years, both private and genuine imported motorcycle businesses have brought many models of Indian brands for sale, such as Bajaj or Royal Enfield.

Indian motorcycles possess the advantage of durability and accessible price when they are often positioned lower than competitors in the same segment. However, the amount of equipment and technology is also less. Potential customers are mostly those who are not financially strong, put less emphasis on brand issues and see motorbikes as a mere means of transportation instead of self-interests.
