A representative of the Vietnamese brand informed that the current number of customers wishing to buy and sell used cars is low. As such, the brand has stopped program “Exchange old for new – Smart Solution”. The financial resources of this program will be used to focus on other incentives.

Accordingly, the replacement program is a discount when buying a second VinFast car (electric car) provided that the customer is a member of the global VinFast community. For customers who previously owned a gas-based car and now wish to change to an electric car, this offer will also be applied. Specifically, the incentive reduces cash by 6 million VND for VF 5 Plus, 10 million for VF e34, 15 million for VF 8, and 20 million for VF 9.

Before VinFast, the preferential policy for customers buying a second car of the same brand has not been applied by any other brands. This incentive continues to be a new direction in the auto market. The company’s goal is to promote consumption for electric vehicles, a type of transport while receives a lot of attention from customers still have relatively low sales compared to gasoline and diesel cars. In November, VinFast sold 594 electric vehicles, of which 182 are VF e34, and 412 are VF 8.

VinFast aims to reach 150,000 charging ports for electric cars and motorbikes in 63 provinces by the end of 2022. The Vietnamese company is the only brand in the domestic market that only sells electric vehicles. Leading brands such as Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai do not have any pure electric commercial products for sale in Vietnam. Instead, hybrid models are sold.

Toyota is selling Altis, Camry, and Corolla Cross hybrid; Kia has Sorento hybrid. The plan to sell electric cars has been confirmed by Hyundai and Kia with two models, Ioniq 5 and EV6, respectively, but the specific timeline is still open to speculations.
