The Swedish automaker’s first electric utility vehicle was test-driven in China before going on sale in the fourth quarter.

As revealed earlier this year, Volvo is finalizing its first electric MPV with an expected launch date in the third quarter before going on sale in the fourth quarter. The car was caught testing at a park in China with its camouflage.

The exterior style of the car are similar to MPV model Zeekr 009 electric. Zeekr is a brand belonging to Geely, which is also the parent company of Volvo. Therefore, the electric MPVs of the two sub-brands can share the SEA platform built by Geely. It means the dimensions of the two models are quite similar. The Zeekr 009 has dimensions of length x width x height of 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,858 mm and a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, respectively.

Despite the camouflage, some design features of Volvo’s electric MPV can still be seen. The vehicile has flat and steep front, high bonnet and sliding door in the rear. In addition, the typical daytime light is equipped with similar style to 7-seater electric vehicle – Volvo EX90 and Volvo’s smallest electric car – EX30.

The MPV Volvo’s seats are the same as in the Zeekr 009, and in a 2-2-3 layout. On the Zeekr 009, the second row has a footrest, heating, cooling and massage.

There has no information about the powertrain of Volvo’s electric MPV, but CarNewsChina suppose it will be similar to the Zeekr 009. This means that the car includes two battery options: 116 kWh (range of 702 km per charge) and a 140-kWh battery (range of 822 km). Two electric motors with a total power of 544 hp and torque of 686 Nm.

Overall, Volvo’s electric MPV could be a rebranded from the Zeekr 009 with some exterior differences. The difference is also in the price when Volvo’s car will be more expensive. In China, the Zeekr 009 has the price from $69,100-81,500. Therefore, the Volvo electric MPV can be up to $100,000 in price.
