Many dealers of domestically assembled brands are showing signs of dropping promotion rates, following news on the 50% decrease in registration fee starting Dec 1.

Since the beginning of the year, the heavy influence of Covid-19 has caused the car automobile to freeze. Consequently, manufacturers and dealers have deeply reduced prices and donated accessories from a few dozen to several hundred million VND. But after November 26, when it was officially announced that the registration fee would be reduced by 50%, dealers immediately took action to reduce the promotion rates.

Hyundai is among those with the most promotions. Currently, the company’s cars are sold at the list price, even some best-selling models like the oil-engine Santa Fe are unavailable. Customers have to get versions with better accessories to receive the car sooner. Before which, most of the Korean automaker’s models were reduced by 15-35 million VND, all the way up to 80 million VND for the Tucson model. Hyundai’s best-seller, Accent, is also reduced by 15-25 million VND, along with some incentives on accessories.

For Toyota, their promotion values have reduced by 10-20 million VND. For example, Vios buyers get a 40 million discount instead of 60 million VND. Dealers are currently out of stock for some colors due to rapid purchases. Innova and Fortuner incentives are now discounts of 40-50 million VND, which was 50-60 million before. Toyota Altis is currently out of stock. The new version is expected to release after the Lunar New Year.

Brands that minimize their incentives heavily include Mitsubishi, Honda and Ford. Products from these brands offer cash from 20-25 million VND. Notably, EcoSport retains their 60-million-VND offer due to slow sales. Ranger buyers may have to add accessories to receive their vehicle early. Kia is one that had little adjustments to promotion. This is because the company did not discount deeply, for their cars were all new launches. Currently, most of Kia’s models are sold at the list price and can offer additional physical insurance depending on the model.

Mazda, Peugeot and VinFast are companies that still maintain original incentives. Mazda even offers customers additional ones for some models, including imported and assembled.

For luxury cars, currently only Mercedes has domestically assembled cars, but the promotion level is also reduced compared to before. The 3-5% discount on car prices is now 2-3%. Possibly from the beginning of December, cars will return to their listed prices. As for the GLC line, dealers are currently sold out, waiting for resupply from the factory.

The 50% reduction in registration fees is the main reason for dealers and brands to cut promotions. On the other hand, limited supply due to interrupted production also adds to equation. Finally, the application of the registration policy close to the end of the shopping season causes the number of customers to accumulate from the middle of 2020.
