The German automaker introduced plug-in hybrid versions with a range of 100 km, launched in November, starting at 68.600 USD.
BMW added plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain options for the Series 5, including the 530e and 550e xDrive models. According to the plan, these PHEV versions will be first available in the European market in November, followed by other countries in 2024.
The 530e is equipped with a PHEV powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 2.0 petrol engine combined with an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission, along with a 19.4 kWh battery pack. It can deliver a total power of 295 hp, 450 Nm of torque. As a result, the BMW 530e can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km/h. The operating range is 93-103 km when using electricity only.
The more potent 550e xDrive uses a more powerful electric motor, accompanied by a 3.0 V6 gasoline engine, all-wheel drive. The car has a total power of 483 hp, 700 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The electric-only range is 83-90 km.
Both the 530e and 550e xDrive come with a 7.4 kW fast-charging system, allowing for a full charge in 3 hours and 15 minutes. With AC charging, the full charging time extends up to 12 hours.
In Germany, the BMW 530e and the 550e xDrive cost $68,600 and $81,200 respectively.
Earlier, in May, BMW introduced the new generation 5 series with two options, including internal combustion and pure electric, starting at $57,900.
