Mazda to introduce a new car in this month with first appearance of electric motor and light emitting logo

14 Oct 2023

Mazda is approaching the electric engines category with its non-flagship model.

At the 2023 Japan Mobility Show at the end of October, Mazda will introduce an all-electric sports car concept according to their recent  announcement. It is highly likely that this concept is a preview of the upcoming Mazda MX-5 all-electric model that the company plans to release widely in the near future.

The reason for assuming that the aforementioned car is because Mazda also admitted that they will bring several generations of MX-5 to show at the show. This move would be illogical if the concept car were not connected to this model.

Teaser images released by Mazda reveal the rear design of the sports car, featuring circular LED taillights. The large Mazda logo is positioned prominently in the center of the rear of the car. This design resembles another concept car introduced in 2021 called the Vision Study Model, which was rumored to be the all-electric MX-5 at that time.

Many sources from Japan confirm that the Mazda MX-5 will launch a new generation between 2026 and 2028. The powertrain for this model is expected to be a gasoline-electric hybrid, although an all-electric version is also a reasonable choice, considering Mazda’s goal to become a 100% electric vehicle brand starting from 2030.

The Japan Mobility Show 2023 kicks off on October 26. This is the new name of the Tokyo Motor Show – one of the largest car shows in Asia. The event changed its name to emphasize the core shift, which is that this is no longer just a playground to show vehicles but has expanded to demonstrate various future transportation-related services.
