Urban railway line 6 is planned to be 43 km long, from Noi Bai to the new urban area in the west of Ngoc Hoi, connecting line 4 in Co Nhue and line 7 in Duong Noi.
Hanoi People’s Committee has just assigned relevant units to study the urban railway project No. 6, Noi Bai – Ngoc Hoi section, using non-refundable ODA from the Australian Government through the World Bank (WB).
The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) is the focal point to receive funding for research. The MRB is responsible for working with WB experts to redefine the content of the project, selecting appropriate work to ensure efficiency, complying with Vietnamese regulations, and producing long-term relevant research results (for project preparation in the next stages).
Hanoi requested MRB to study and propose investment forms of building urban railway line No. 6 to be able to mobilize capital for investment. In which, the study applies the TOD (traffic-oriented development) model to exploit underground space at urban railway stations and adjacent land, especially at the starting and ending points. This can recover a part of the capital, improve investment efficiency, and reduce pressure on the government’s budget.
According to the planning of Hanoi metropolitan railway network by 2030, the city will have 10 lines with a total length of 417 km, of which 342 km are above ground and 75 km under. Currently, only Cat Linh – Ha Dong route has been completed and operated commercially after 10 years of construction.
Five other routes are being rolled out at different stages:
The city has also assigned the MRB to prepare the remaining routes, including Nam Thang Long – Noi Bai; Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh; Route Co Nhue – Parameter Road 3 – Linh Nam – Bat Trang – Duong Xa…
